Sally also had a great friendship with the artist Derek Hill who lived at the Glebe House in Churchill. She had a complete photo album of postcards that Derek sent back to her on his visits all over the world. In this story Sally tells of meeting Derek on the day his good friend Lord Mountbatten was killed at Mullaghmore. Hill arrived back later that evening to his home in Churchill where he in...

Wonderful interview.
Our lovely Letterkenny Town, thank you Sally. Ian Mac Lennan, leck view tce.,
wonderful documentary i like this.
I am part of the Italian Choir "Coro Monte Pasubio"(min 8:41) . I was not there that day but I found this interesting video and I would like to send my congratulation to the town of Letterkenny for the wonderful ospitality that my friends told me about. This is the seventh edition of the Festival and was the second time the Choir came to Letterkenny Festival and knew an other fantastic group of children called Spurley Hey Wind Band , great young musicians and still friends after 45 years passed.
Artie antlers? 🥺❤️
Planter town.😂😂
Some great stuff here - economic development, social development, planning communities, parochialism etc. Issues that still dominate local politics in our country.
I benefitted from the new pool in the mid 70s. It was a game changer for the young of the town, and youngsters from other parts of the county who used to come in buses to learn how to swim (and save lives).
I live in Maitland nsw Australia. This footage has no relevance to me at all but I watched the entire thing. Beautiful, just beautiful 😢
I remember the old youth club and Fr. McLoone, a Father Ted like character. There were many others like him, and still are today. We got our swimming pool, schools, sports facilities, investment, luxury homes etc. Today the RTC is part of a Technological University. Living away from the town today, the challenge now is develop better road infrastructure to Dublin.
fr mcloone here pauric theres loads a seats up the front here, in the cathedral at 12 mass and it would be packed, shamed for life lol, some boy
It was so nice to see my dad Brendan Colohan again enjoying himself. He's been in Heaven now since 2007. Thank you for the upload.
The Sopranos got me here
My old landlord Mr. Cunningham, a true gent.
My family's Pub;McCAUL's at 9:12.
Aw, I spot Miss Reid! Hope she is well! Fond memories of her as my teacher at the Royal! I see her as I write!
Great video!
Another great video! This is when people had time for each other! They took days off to enjoy themselves . I remember when the president came to Letterkenny! . Oh I also remember Miss Reid ! Do you know what she used to do, she will probably kill me for this, but she would scrape the chalk on the blackboard to annoy us.She was my teacher at the Royal! When I think about it , it still gives me the shivers! She was such a good looking lady. I remember all my teachers ! And I loved school.
Aw,such a great video!! And the people dressed so smart! And everyone so happy! Fun times! When I was a child my dear late parents took us every year to the letterkenny agriculture show.. We had the best times with our picnic basket and a big rug! Watching the show jumping . I remember fondly.
This meeting would have been a great minute meeting to record!! Can anyone imagine!! Dublin keeps the biggest county in Ireland to the bare minimum!
Typical teacher, letting the student finish something he never thought of then take the credit!! Leaving out the tech would have been a cardinal sin lol...
I'm all for the Irish language ! It's a basic right of the Irish people! Catholic or Protestant .The Welsh have their language and speak it freely without fear of reprisal ! Parts of Ireland are still very much in the dark ages, especially Co.Donegal bordering Northern Ireland ! I can't think of any other part of the Republic of Ireland having such a divide! The Irish language shouldn't be decided by politics, period !
And still the letterkenny hospital is a dreadful place!
Excellent film! In particular the priest smoking his cigarette !
anybody know who the fiddel player was in letterkenny fair that day looks like Johnny Doherty but smaller or was it Hugh Doherty only guessing here would be nice to know
Pretty sure it's not Johnny, who I remember as being quite tall.
Wow this was great to watch. A lot of people i knew as well from when i first moved there in the late 70s
This is the night mail...
it was a tragedy he died so suddenly. R.I.P
Brilliant Ciaran. Thanks
I think it maybe just the sound, but it sounded like he was playing a totally different song
A bit of a long shot but does anyone know of a Tiger Moth aircraft that was said to be stored in a shed at Letterkenny around 1977 or earlier?
Today, it's hard to understand objections to the then RTC at Letterkenny. Towns like LK, Dundalk, Athlone. Sligo and Carlow have developed strongly on foot of their RTCs, including foreign direct investment. The town has done well over the years and the people are proud of their hone town, the "pride of Donegal" as the song goes.
12:20, scouts hall?
12:40, I think that milling company (1975) was a ruin within five to ten years. That spot used to be derelict, with peacocks visible off the roadside, near the pool, or even on the road.
I'm not sure how it is that other people saw this but could not give it a thumbs up .
Lovely place I have no idea where Bogay is
Very beautiful scenery . It would have been nice if you had sumed in a little bit when you showed the water . I was also interested in seeing what was to your left . It would have been lovely to see this be longer than it was . Also I am wondering exactly where this is
Sometimes I struggle with certain types of Irish accents as was the case here and so a lot of this I simply could not quite understand .
very good, cheers sally blake
Brillant watch - thanks for upload!!
this is at least 4 years old ...
Fascinating film. Thank you for uploading
Think that's about the dullest chain I ever seen...GEEZ could have use a hack saw and been quicker.
Bernard McGlinchey here, whose name is used for the Letterkenny Town Park.
Took way Too long to fell that tree. Prolly using a dull chain. Additionally that tree should have felled away from the road.
Everybody’s an expert. Nothing more annoying than a know it all nosy neighbor. What else do you and your buddies stare at out the window. Let me guess when the guy across the street takes a shower.
Are you a tree feller? No, I didn't think so...
I don't see a problem he got it cut down no damage done.talk about idiots.yes
Richard Brown He could easy make it fall to the opposite side. And he made a slant cut wich is bad too. Not to mention his non existant savety equipment.
Bunch of wankers
What a bunch of fuckwits, i could have chewed thru it faster
lol I could cut through it with a 4x4 faster than they could
I could have chewed thru it faster, and have no teeth
i could have cut through it with by wrist faster than them
Good man Jim. Some voice!
These guys are ten-ply. What sort of backwards fucking pageantry is that?
